Abstract

The paper proposes an approach based on application of ontology management technology to the tasks of product configuration and product code design in an industrial company. The development of the approach includes usage of Web-services for industrial environment representation and context-based information processing to facilitate the product configuration task. The research is illustrated via a case study for an industrial company that has more than 300 000 customers in 176 countries. A use case for ontology-driven product configuration demonstrates the applicability of the approach.
