BUILDING BRIEF ONTOLOGIES - A Case Study for Floods Management

Abstract
This paper introduces the generation of brief ontologies as a mechanism to obtain a reduced version of the original ontology. The new ontology includes the relevant knowledge for a given context and thus reduces reasoning time in applications. In order to do so, an automatic selection of the concepts that are included in the brief ontology is done. A case of study for flood management is also presented, creating a brief ontology that contains only knowledge related to floods from a generic ontology of environmental assessment.
