Building Application Ontologies through Knowledge System Goals

Abstract

This article presents a case study in building an application ontology for the development of a knowledge-based system in the field of Inheritance Law, developed with GAODT, a goal oriented technique. GAODT proposes the translation of the goals necessary to build a knowledge-based system expressed in natural language to rules in First-order logic, from which the elements that constitute the application ontology (classes, relations, properties and axioms) are extracted. It is also presented a comparative evaluation between GAODT and other state of the art techniques.
