Abstract

The characteristics and profiles of organizations are important issues for the planning of their software process improvement. It supports the alignment with organizational culture as well as with the consolidation of best practices already implemented. This paper presents the results of a field study to identify the perception of the industry about challenges and opportunities of software process improvement faced by Small and Medium Enterprises. This field study aimed at identifying the profile and perception of a group of software development firms concerning software process improvement. The results indicated a list of challenges and activities faced and performed by the companies toward the software process improvement journey.
