Abstract

In this paper, a quaternion-based method is proposed for color image edge detection. A pair of quaternion mask is used for horizontal and vertical filter since quaternion convolution is not commutative. The detection procedure consists of two steps: quaternion convolution for edge detection and gradient vector to enhance edge structures. Experimental results demonstrate its capabilities on natural color images.
