Abstract

During the last decades, innovation has become a hot topic in a variety of socio-technological contexts: in particular, a key problem is that of understanding its origins. Moreover, scientists are not able to evaluate the sustainability of innovation processes, and it is difficult to discover what sort of conditions might lead to their crisis and even collapse. In this paper we present a model where agents are able to create new artifacts and can develop and enact strategies able to sustain innovation for very long periods. We discuss some results and make observations useful for understanding the processes and the strategies that sustain the growth of diversity in social and technological organizations.
